Why would Jesus tell his followers to not be afraid and then to be afraid? (Matthew 10:24-31) Why does he give this warning?

It doesn't really come out and say does it? It seems like he's saying to be afraid of believing that you are the one accomplishing these things - and if you let your guard down and not rely and acknowledge the real source of the words you speak, the blessings and mercies you extend, and the miracles that you invoke - that amongst the wolves of the world, your gonna be in whole lot of trouble.

I think he was telling them/us do not be afraid of those people who do not accept you and your words/actions on behalf of God, Jesus will protect us. But be afraid of him (GOD) who can kill your body and soul. Many people using the word Respect rather than Fear but I kinda like the old phrase, having the fear of God in you.
