How does Jesus counter the charge that he must be in the league with the prince of demons (12:22-32)?

With impeccable logic. Satan casting out Satan, a divided kingdom cannot stand, binding the strong man, and For Him or against Him (the law of the excluded middle). Side note: The divided kingdom has me concerned when I look out upon America especially when God Himself says such a kingdom cannot survive.

It sure seems like we're on our way with that - it feels like a punch in the stomach hearing the way we see folks demonizing anyone that disagrees. If it were just politicians it would be one thing; but individuals and more painfully our churches have also shown an adeptness at it. If the way we are to correct each other in our congregation is 1) privately, 2) with another member - why should we so publically denounce other christians and churches? especially when we tolerate christian ministers that promote picketting funerals? I know mine is a naive observation - of course there are exceptions, but I can't tell you how refreshing it's been to not have had single sermon in over a year about how all those other churches are on the slippery slope...

I agree, but then we must work extra hard to show the world what kind of Christians we are and how these churches are different from us. Because they get the publicity - so that's what people outside the church think the church is. I will probably never preach the type of sermon you are speaking about - but I might find other ways to hold them accountable and challenge their beliefs. Suggestions?

for the folks outside the church to see what kind of Christians we are - community events - I know somebody that is really good at being a "story lady" - reading childrens stories, etc. could we host a New Freedom scavenger Hunt? - essentially non-church stuff. Unrelated but similar is a comment I once heard about why bad things happen to Christians - every time something bad happens to a non christian, Jesus allows it to happen to a Christian so the world can see the difference. How can we do stuff that everybody else does and show 1) how a Christian does it differently and 2) How they may already be "good" as we are - but we have a calm about us because we can lean on someone that controls everything.

Great ideas! Interestingly, the story lady idea might be great for the harvest fest. I think your wife plans to chat with me and few others about that event after church on Sunday. and I think the road race type scavenger hunt as a fundraiser for a particular cause might be a really cool way to get the community involved...
