Why do you think the parable in Matthew 22:1-14 makes many readers uncomfortable?

Could it possibly be that they may look at Christianity as a religion, a bottom up way of meriting God’s Grace? If we hear the invitation of the Spirit to come to the banquet and are clothed in Christ Jesus’ righteousness there will be nothing to fear.

very possible. I also wonder if the idea of sending someone away for not being dressed properly is often taken too literally and it doesnt seem very welcoming to do that. I mean, Jesus wouldnt want us to turn people away because they came to church in dirty clothes. Your view of the passage is the more accurate way of reading it. But I think many people dont even get that far with it and totally misunderstand the point.
