The story reminds us that Jesus came to fulfill God’s plans, not our own. Why is it difficult to recognize God’s plans today?

People seems to put all their eggs into one basket, this life here on earth, not thinking about the precious gift of "Eternal Life in Heaven" that GOD offers to us, for following his will. It seems folks have a lot of trouble keeping their Faith in GOD. If you read 2nd Timothy Chapter 3, I see more and more people like this each day. Its seems today it's more and more about what can you do for me, not how can I help you brother or sister.

it is definitely what can you do for me today. It is rarely what can I do for God or my brothers and sisters in Christ. I would suggest though that many people focus on Eternal life as the end goal - but really, the journey is more important. So, perhaps instead of following his will in order to get to heaven - its more about following his will in order to grow on the journey? I'm wondering if our failure to recognize his will is because our humanity want to avoid to growth and change?

Accepting that God is so much smarter, stronger, holier, and righteous than I can even grasp is really tough for me. Why wouldn't God want me to understand and be capable of loving him back as much as he's loved me? I can't be grateful enough or sorry enough or helpful enough to put a drop in his very big bucket. I'm grateful for the faith he gives me to watch people get hurt and go through horrible experiences and not be crushed by it. How else can you see a child abused, a friend die of cancer - and no examples or historical context to show God's planand everybody lives happily ever after? Intellectually I accept that these things drive us to the only One that can put is in a place to reach out for faith, and the One that will give it to us, but emotionally it's tough.

Understanding my finitude has helped me get a grasp on God. We are finite and He is Infinite. Bottom up we cannot even begin to know Him. But thanks be to God that He has revealed Himself to us from the top down! He does this through His general Revelation (Creation) and by His special Revelation (The Scriptures). We learn of His majesty through what we observe in nature and we learn of His Love for us through His Revelation to us. In a way it is like our horizontal relationship with others here on earth. We can only get to know another as well as they reveal themselves to us. In our vertical relationship with God it is He who decides just how much He is willing to reveal. I think of Paul in this context when he was allowed to hear things that he could not speak of. (2nd Corinthians 12:1-10) The problem of evil (child abused, a friend die of cancer) is the unbelievers main objection to the existence of God. It has been answered on the intellectual level and for the most part on the emotional level when one considers that God Himself took part in our suffering in a very real way. He did not stand a far off with His arms folded but rolled up His sleeves and took part in our suffering when He hung on that cross and took upon Himself the entire sin of the world from the past, present and the future!!
