What can we learn from the servants in 25:14-30 and why do many people today find it hard to take a risk with the gifts God has given them?

I find myself wondering why the parable didn't have a servant who invested everything and lost it all. When we consider risking everything, don't we worry more about losing it all rather than holdiong it for no gain? I know everything belongs to Him, but aren't we challenged to make sure we take care of our families? The answers aren't black and white - and even in prayer we aren't given the answer as clearly as we may like. When we risk using our intangible gifts - the "return" is often unseen but could be even more profound. Some of the most profound events in my life have been as the recipient or the witness of someone giving to others and the casual "naturalness" with which they give - and without a thought for gratitude. Having so many people in my life to show me "giing without expectation" has been such an inspiration, but can be such a worry to practice.

very true. we are always scared of loosing everything. And yes, God wants us to take care of our families. This is such a hard topic and one I personally struggle with as well. In the Financial Peace Class, Dave Ramsey teaches that we give our tithe first, then all our bills. This can be hard when it seems like there is never enough to meet the basic needs. But I think God wants us to consider what are the needs and then how are we using the rest of his resources.
