That's where He found me; and as the Love was reinforced - so also was the accountability.
God’s Love shared is a wonderful way to open a relationship with others. When people look around now days many see a sinking ship when it comes to morality, economics, the health of the nation etc. and they begin to despair. God offers them much more than temporal being. We truly do have the Good News! I believe you are right when you speak of accountability both in the vertical and horizontal realms. A problem with our culture these days however is that we have become a culture of blame. It’s always someone else’s fault. This has vertical as well as horizontal ramifications as you might expect. If we cannot find someone to blame on the horizontal level we quickly point upwards and say it is God’s fault. He seems to be the cosmic catch all. We get angry when God does not answer our prayers in the way we want, when we want and how we want.
Your last thought brings us back to another post. At bottom we need to be prepared to give an answer for our Hope in meekness and humility. (1st Peter 3:15) We need to be prepared. How is this done? By praying and being in the Word daily, by reading about the culture and the society in which we live (from a Christian perspective), by seeking fellowship with other true believers, and especially by looking for ways to be intentional about our faith. If we are faithful in the least of these God will open doors for us to walk through.
I chuckle at what one encourager said at the end of his presentation.
“Christianity is not a spectator sport. It’s a full contact sport! Now get in the game!!!”
He is right in more ways than one................. .
